EMG: A technical and testing centre for sample testing and selection of press types
EMG has a wide range of presses, from manual and mechanical to pneumatic and hydropneumatic. For more than 50 years, the company's men and women have concentrated their energy and passion on providing each customer with the final solution corresponding to the machine tool best suited to their application(s).
EMG is aware that it may be necessary to produce samples in order to refine the process and choose the machine that is best suited to the application, and offers its customers a technical and testing centre.
A technical and testing centre on our premises
We welcome our customers and future customers to carry out their tests in a laboratory and showroom adjoining our manufacturing workshops. Based in Marigny-St-Marcel in Haute-Savoie, our facilities are available all year round, and our teams are on hand to help you with all your projects.
We can also carry out tests on samples of materials or prototype parts sent to our address if it is difficult for you to travel.
Which presses can I test?
EMG can test the entire range of its presses. These include manual, pneumatic and hydropneumatic presses, as well as mechanical presses if they are available in the workshop.
Our tests are flexible. They adapt to your needs. Our presses are fully equipped. However, you can bring your own tools for testing, for example for bending, riveting, assembly or stamping.
What materials do we test?
Our presses, whether manual or mechanical, can work with a wide range of materials. You can easily submit your processes to us using traditional materials such as steel or aluminium, or more specific materials such as fibres, resin, carbon or leather... the list goes on!
How do I determine which press is right for my application?
We can help you carry out your tests and trials. To determine which press is right for you, you have two options. Firstly, if you can't come to our premises, or if you don't need to be there, you can send us samples, and we'll carry out the tests for you.
Secondly, if your project is complex, you'll need to visit us. We'll be happy to show you the application processes that match your requirements. With the help of our professional staff, you can choose the models that best suit your application. We'll provide you with all the technical information you need. Please allow 1 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the project and the time needed to set up the tools.
If you have your own tool, we prefer to use it to reproduce production conditions. If not, we have a wide range of tooling at your disposal. EMG uses this to define the press best suited to your project. The primary objective is not to produce, but only to produce the samples needed to select your machine.
How are the technical trials and tests carried out?
- Trials and tests with a manual press
At EMG, who can do more can do less. That's why most tests are carried out using a high-capacity 50HR manual rack-and-pinion press. Technical tests often require a power requirement of less than 5000kg. This type of press is fitted with a force sensor. This enables the power required to produce the sample to be identified immediately. Once the power level has been identified, we can guide you towards the model or models in our range that meet the needs of your application.
If you don't know what power you need, our team will guide you towards the type of press best suited to your specific constraints, such as production rates, working stroke, environment and workstation ergonomics. Drawing on its expertise, EMG also advises its customers on how to optimise their tools.
- Trials and tests with a mechanical press
If your application requires testing with a mechanical press, our team is also at your disposal. Even if you know exactly what you need, we can confirm your stamping, cutting or forming process, for example. Don't hesitate to consult us to ensure a perfect result before you buy your new machine.
- Installation of tools and accessories
Depending on the type of application to be tested on our test presses, we adapt the various tools and accessories required. For example, for an assembly application, this may involve fitting the rings, pins and bearings to the operation to be tested. We then check the settings so that the tests can be carried out safely.
- Transmission of test results
At the end of the tests, EMG provides its customers with the results and the corresponding reports. These results are presented in the form of a test report and, increasingly frequently, in video form. A link is sent to you, giving you a concrete view of the recommendations we make.
